Voluntourism

What is Voluntourism?

For many travelers, sightseeing alone isn’t enough. If you want to leave a positive impact behind when you visit Orleans, our voluntourism opportunities can help you do that.

From supporting the environmentally sensitive areas of Cape Cod to assisting families in need, your contribution will last long after your visit ends.

Here are some ideas to get you started on making a difference in Orleans:

CARE for the Cape Islands
As a travelers’ philanthropy initiative, CARE seeks to encourage, support, and create opportunities for visitors to donate their “time, talent, and treasure” to help preserve and protect the very things they travel here to see and enjoy: exquisite natural beauty, plant and wildlife habitats, Cape & Islands culture and history.

Homeless Prevention Council
The Homeless Prevention Council provides extensive counseling and guidance to those at risk of becoming homeless. Client services include: advocacy and access to housing programs and funding, budgeting and negotiation for rent and mortgage payments. In addition, case managers assist clients in assessing their ability to earn a living and, if appropriate, encourage them to pursue further job training and/or education.

Lower Cape Outreach Council
The mission of Lower Cape Outreach Council is to provide emergency assistance in food, clothing and financial support to residents of the eight towns that constitute Lower Cape Cod and to follow up with services and support in the areas of employment and education.

United Way
The Cape and Islands United Way leads social impact in the region. Partnering with donors, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations, they improve lives and build stronger communities on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket, promoting health, improving educational success and financial stability and creating housing stability.
