Thursday, April 11 – With a score of 92.6, SPIRIT Winter Percussion won their round, and placed third overall out of thirty-one groups in the Independent Open division of the Preliminary Competition of the Winter Guard International Percussion World Championships, also known as the “Sport of the Arts.” Spirit raised the bar this afternoon with their 2019 production, All the Colors in the Box, wowing the judges and thrilling the audience at Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio.

Spirit now advances to perform in the Semi-finals competition on Friday, April 12 at 7:40 p.m. EST, at the Wright State University Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Prior to the 2019 WGI World Championships, Spirit Winter Percussion, a Cape Cod-based ensemble of 31 members ages 12-22, had earned scores in the top bracket in the New England competitive circuit this season. Spirit also won the WGI Power Regional Championships in New Jersey. The ensemble, directed by Richard K. Pugsley, has impacted audiences and judges alike across the Northeast with their courageous message to be true to yourself, and find anew the joy of living life to the fullest. With a mission of “Teamwork, Passion and Excellence,” Spirit is a living model of the power of music and the arts to equip young people for a life of purpose, meaning, and service to others.
