An unwavering commitment to excellence, passion and teamwork pays off with their vibrant show, All the Colors in the Box

Saturday April 13 – Spirit Winter Percussion from Cape Cod, MA, takes home Bronze with a score of 95.638 in the Finals round with their show, All the Colors in the Box at the Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

At this defining event in youth music that draws over 12,000 participants annually from across the world, Spirit brought a crowd of thousands to its feet with a brilliant performance. In their 15th anniversary season, Spirit Winter Percussion, under the direction of Richard K. Pugsley, presented their 2019 production, All the Colors in the Box, taking a journey to find anew the joy of living life to the fullest, and sharing their courageous message to be true to yourself.

The show began with a faceless block of bodies. This rigidity was soon shattered, and replaced by a reveal of individual colors that each exuded their unique character, but still isolated. Realizing that there must be more to finding ones’ self, the colors began to blend and mix. Finally, all the colors were revealed in an explosion of color and excitement that swirled on the field. Pat Metheny’s jazz chart, The Way Up, was the musical vehicle for this production. All the Colors in the Box explored the importance of finding and staying true to your color, sharing it with others, and appreciating and enjoying all the colors in the box.

Representing the true spirit of Massachusetts with their commitment to Excellence, Passion, and Teamwork, Spirit Winter Percussion is a living model of the power of music and the arts to inspire young people to achieve the impossible. Spirit congratulates their 31 fellow division ensembles competing in the Percussion Independent Open Class!
