(Orleans, MA, April 29, 2013) – The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named local painter Elaine Coffee this year’s guest artist for the 24th Annual Cape Cod Five Pops in the Park concert on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Eldredge Park in

Artist Elaine Coffee

Orleans featuring the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Jung-Ho Pak.

Ms. Coffee  has been commissioned to create this year’s commemorative painting and limited edition lithograph, which will be unveiled at a reception in her honor June 19th as part of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. The original painting will also be auctioned at an event in July.  Limited edition prints of the work will be available during the concert.

According to its Executive Director, Kevin Howard, “The Arts Foundation is dedicated to bringing this important Lower Cape cultural event to life and what better way than through a commemorative painting. We are all looking forward to Ms. Coffee’s interpretation in her unique style.”

After earning a degree in fine art Elaine Coffee’s journey led her through the worlds of advertising and medical illustration, as well as writing and editing for a food magazine.  This eclectic background afforded her the  opportunity to observe interesting lifestyles and Coffee’s desire to capture their individual gesture and mood would define her direction as a painter today.

In her own words, Elaine Coffee’s mature work is an “exercise in engineering.” Working elements from various sources into one coherent picture, she acts like a theater director, casting interesting characters from disparate venues and endeavoring to portray them as part of one harmonious scene. Coffee is careful to articulate that her paintings are more about the individual than the overall arrangement.

Proceeds from the August concert enable the Arts Foundation to fulfill its mission to support, promote, and celebrate arts and culture of Cape Cod. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Barnstable County’s regional arts agency, provides artistic, cultural, and educational programs with an emphasis on supporting arts education initiatives, individual artists, and cultural organizations. Pops in the Park will allow the Arts Foundation to increase direct support through its grants and scholarships programs, particularly in the Lower Cape.
