Eighty women gathered at the Hyannisport Club on Wednesday to launch WOMEN UNITED. A new affinity group of the Cape and Islands United Way, WOMEN UNITED is galvanizing to raise funds and mobilize volunteers in support of early education and care for Cape Cod families. Speaker Cindy Horgan, Director of Cape Cod Children’s Place in Eastham and an expert in parent education and engagement, declared the need to “Start at the beginning, nurturing and supporting children ages zero to three — and their parents — in order to get upstream of our community challenges.” WOMEN UNITED hopes to raise $200,000 over the coming year in support of programs that engage parents and provide young children with the social, emotional, and language skills to thrive. In addition to encouraging membership, they will host a variety of events and activities and offer numerous volunteer opportunities.
