A spirited group of volunteers from AmeriCorps Cape Cod and Senior Corp volunteers from Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands will work along side Cape Abilities participants to prepare our award-winning tomato plants for the upcoming growing season at the Route 6A Farm in Dennis, and brighten up our Life Skills Center with fresh coats of paint at the Lyndon Center in Hyannis.
“Our senior volunteers are pleased to be partnering with Cape Abilities on MLK Day,” says Senior Service Corps Director Susan Schneider. “The Senior Service Corps program is happy to promote and capture the volunteer spirit of the MLK Day of Service.”
Initiated by Congress in 1994, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a nationwide effort to transform the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into a day of community service. This celebrtion on Cape Cod has become a special day of volunteering, giving back, and making a real difference for our neighbors.
“AmeriCorps knows what a great impact Cape Abilities has on the community,” notes Brittany Quaglieri, Program Specialist with Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod. “It’s fortunate that we have been able to partner with them for the past several years on MLK Day.”
