For over 20 years the Homeless Prevention Council in Orleans has been providing Christmas gifts for children in need on the Lower and Outer Cape through their Adopt-A-Family program. Last year this program provided gifts for 142 families, which included 355 children. Every single child was given a shirt, pair of pants, a coat and two special wishes.

When you call to participate, great care is given to match you with the perfect family. You then go and shop for gifts for that family – you are given sizes and needed information, and then you deliver your gift to the Santa Shop in the vacant shop next to Staples in Orleans. We ask that the gifts be delivered in a black plastic bag so curious kids can’t see them when they’re brought home! You are asked to also include wrapping paper and tape so parents can be part of the experience of giving the gifts to their children.

If you can’t shop for a whole family, cash donations are greatly appreciated. The HPC makes sure every child receives gifts.

In the last two years, community needs have increased for the Adopt a Family program, so we need your support now more than ever. Every child deserves to feel the joy and excitement of finding gifts under the tree on Christmas morning, and we so hope you will want to partner with us in making that happen.
