The artwork titled ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ was commissioned from Cape Cod painter Robert Cardinal to be featured on the cover of the concert’s commemorative program book and auctioned at a reception on August 18th at the Orleans Inn to benefit the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod later this summer.

According to Arts Foundation President & CEO Kevin Howard, “”The oohs and ahs of the assemblage when the painting was unveiled said it all. Bob has done a magnificent job of keep the theme of music and the sea in the most subtle yet vibrant way. We are honored to have his creation as the image for Pops in the Park’s Silver Anniversary.”

A resident of Truro, Robert Cardinal has been living on Cape Cod for most of the past fifty years. In the late 1950’s, he left Montreal, Canada and moved to Greenwich Village and from there, he followed his fellow artists on their spring pilgrimage to Provincetown.  Cardinal looks for harmony between nature and what is man-made in simple scenes: isolated beaches, lighthouses, lonely Cape homes. He stresses color, light and mood in an effort to achieve a moment in time using striking combinations of color that are bold and vibrant and even somewhat shocking in hue.  Cardinal is represented by Addison Art Gallery in Orleans.
